ITC Enrico Tosi in Sotunki 2009

HOME
The Finnish houses are different from Italian ones because in each house there is a sauna with one room to change clothes.
There are also different showers because people have a whole room to wash themselves.
The rooms are very hot, welcoming and full of colours.
Every room has a lot of object also souvenirs from the other countries like Italy, French and Spain, for example, a lot of things for cooking pasta and pizza.
A lot of houses are built with wood, in particular birch tree and fir.
The families are welcoming and quiet, it is a good experiences because at home the family talk with you and you aren´t shy.

COMPARE ITALIAN AND FINNISH FOOD
The Finnish foods are more different than Italian ones.
In Italy we eat three times a day. In the morning before the school we have breakfast and we eat some biscuit and we drink some tea or some milk, after school we have a lunch where we eat some pasta or meat. At 19.30 we have dinner where we eat some meat or fish with some salad or the other vegetables. In Finland meals are different. You can eat when you want.
We didn´t eat a lot but it was a very nice experience.

ITALIAN AND FINNISH CUSTOMS
Italian customs are different from Finnish ones. First of all, Finnish people are in general shy but they like having fun with foreign people. On the other hand, Italians are very out-going and extroverted and they like going out together. To young Finnish people, enjoying themselves means going to bowling, to the cinema or church (‘cause in Finnish churches you can find a mini-club and big rooms with tv, play station and so on…) and having parties at friends’ houses. In Italy instead we usually go to the disco or to the pub. Besides, Finnish people eat six times a day and Italians only three times. They also have lunch and dinner earlier than Italians and their breakfast is very plenty. Finally, in spite of the differences between two countries, staying together has been a really positive experience.

Italian and Finnish school system:
The are a lot of differences between Finnish and Italian school. In Italy everybody does the same thing in the first two years. In the other three years you can choose what to do between different ways. In Finland there are different education levels, obligatory school is nine years and it´s free.
I liked Finnish school and I think that´s less boring than Italian. Very nice experience.

FAZER TR
On Thursday 5.2.2009, after having lunch at school, we went to Fazer. This is the Scandinavian largest chocolate and sugar confectionary factory. It is set a few kilometres off Sotunki amidst hills and lakes. First we watched a film about the foundation and the history of Fazer and then the guide took us to visit the premises. We also had the opportunity to taste the different kinds of local chocolate. Finally, during our free time, we bought a lot of chocolate!!!
It is very good and we love it so much J
Kuusijärvi
After a bus journey of a few minutes we got to Lake Kuusijärvi, we waited for some minutes and then we formed two groups. The former walked around the lake and the latter had a barbecue in a wooden hut which was open. I was in the second group; after some minutes we started cooking sausages and eating them; the sausages were really good, I ate a lot, after a half hour the other group arrived and we changed activities. So, we had Nordic Walking around the lake, it was quite tiring because of the wind and the cold. Then we went together to the sauna: there were two types of degrees: 60-80 and 80-100. You could also have a bath in the frozen lake; I bathed 4 times, it was really amazing! After that we drank something and then we went home.

Suomenlinna
On Monday 9th February we took the bus from school to Helsinki. After visiting the Dome we went to Suomenlinna by ferry . There we met our guide that told us the story of the island from the 17th century to the 18th century. We saw the old Russian Military Fortress and the old square which was the most beautiful of Finland. The guide told us that in the 17th century Suomenlinna was bigger than Helsinki, which was only a little town. The name of the Island was Sveaborg because it was a colony of soldiers of the Swedish Crown. Later it was conquered by the Russian army that used it as a garrison. At the end the guide greeted us and we continued with the visit in the city centre.

Heureka
On Thursday morning we went to Heureka Museum. We left school by bus at half past nine, the building was very big and beautiful. During the visit they talked about natural history, science technology and some activities. First of all we saw a film about the growth of the world and the university in the digital planetarium, this is an enormous room with a circular screen on all walls. The film was very interesting because you could visit the space without driving space aircrafts. We saw the collision of planet and the other stars in the sky. After we had a lot of free time to play in the Interactive exhibition place for two hours and then we had lunch together in the café.
Host family
At the weekend we went shopping in Jumbo, here we visited a lot of interesting shops and we discovered that in this place there were also bowling, golf field, cinema and water park.
In the evening we went to Helsinki and we visited the city.
After that we took a train and we went to Tessy´s house party and we had a lot of fun dancing and singing. On Sunday afternoon we went snowboarding to Talma ski. We had a lot of fun but it was so difficult do it and we fell lots of times. In the evening we had a sauna and we went to bed quite early. That´s all.

Classes
We had the possibility to choose which classes to attend. On Thursday and on Friday we started at 8.45, which is not as early as in Italy when classes start at 8.15. We could choose among Religion, Spanish, Music, Crafts, Cooking, Art, History, English, Biology and Sports (skating). The lessons were very interesting and the teachers were very good at speaking to us. We had some possibilities to meet new people when the teachers put us in groups with others students! We had a lot of fun because we were given the chance to learn new things in different subjects that we don’t study at our school. We also practiced skating outside the school: it was the first time for most of us! On Monday, we had Finish lesson and Heidi Heikkilä taught us some useful words and expressions and she also told us something about the language and the culture.
